The TV comedy show How I Met Your Mother is loosely based on the real-life stories of creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.Ted Mosby, the main character, narrates to his children stories about him and his friends' lives when they were younger, leading up to how he met their mother.
Ted's character is based on Craig Thomas.
Lily and Marshall are based on Carter Bays and his wife.
